The Northern Corn Rootworm Model of Norango and Sawyer
(1989) is a process-oriented simulation model that examines the
population dynamics of corn rootworm in the northern United
States. The corn rootworm attacks both the roots and tassels of
corn, decreasing yields. The model examines how planting date
affects the population dynamics of the northern corn rootworm.
The model examines population dynamics using insect phenology equations.
The model requires temperature, beginning insect density, and planting date
of corn as input. The model provides information on the phenology of the
corn plant and the number of insects on the plant in each growth stage.
The model is currently a point model that uses hourly and daily time steps
over a growing season.
